Alan Tugwell - wood carver

Whilst studying for a diploma in Art & Creativity in New Zealand, I began creating flowing abstract forms from the beautiful native wood washed up on my local beach.

I want to provide an wonderful tactile experience, as well as a visual one, so my work is finely finished, which also highlights the stunning natural patterns within the wood.

I use only local timber which has been seasoning for many years: this allows wonderful colours to infuse the fibres, making each piece unique and unreproducible.
